Scorpio

This painting of a Yogini girl on a Scorpion, it is inspired by my Bikram Yoga practice. I feel that this painting has a lovely dance between the masculine and feminine qualities. The Scorpion is bracing itself, poising the stinger in such a manner as to let the girl safely hold on and ride on it's back to begin to perform her posture. She is the first stage of a pose called Standing Bow where you to grab your foot at the ankle with your other arm up before you begin to kick eventually into the standing splits. I have given her limbs an unnaturally long proportion so as to match that of the Scorpion as if they were made to perform together. The Moon above is made of real 24 Karat Gold Leafing. The rest of the piece is in Acrylic paint. The woman's outfit also has a glittery finish which you can see when it hits the light just right. Colors in this piece are primarily, red, dark red, orange red, light orange, magenta, turquoise blue, light blue, dark blue, many shades of yellow, parchement white, and a dark blueish black in the darkest places like the pinchers and legs of the Scorpion.
