Lorelei

I began this piece with foam clay on watercolor paper. They clay I used to make the 3 dimensional Hibiscus Flower, and then the lashes of the eye on the bottom right, lastly I made the hair of the girl. Watercolor was used to make her face, eye and painted onto the flower as well. Later I went back through and enriched the colors with acrylic on the flower and eye and hair.
Turquoise, blue, peach, magenta, yellow, black and white are the primary colors of this piece. This painting reminds me of a swimming mermaid who has adorned herself with a flower in her hair. I painted this way before I even had the idea for Fleurings which is interesting. Her name is Lorelei after the famous legend of the a beautiful young maiden, Lorelei, who threw herself into the water of the Rhine River near St. Goar, over the despair of a faithless lover. She was transformed into a mermaid, or siren and from that day on she could be heard singing on a rock along the River. Her hypnotizing song of despair for her lover was so beautiful it was thought to lure sailors to their death.
