Katrina

This piece was made for my mother, for the living room in her home. This is a family piece the Blue side is dedicated 'MEN' with slightly hidden inscriptions, “for my father", "husband", "grandfather" and "brother". The Red likewise is dedicated to the 'WOMEN', "For my mother", "wife", "grandmother" and "sister". I had trouble naming this piece, as I always do, I feel naming a painting is like naming a child, something Muramasa says too. My Grandma Betty stood next to me when I had finished and I asked her what I should name the painting, standing there she simply replied, "name it Katrina, the blue feels like the water and the red feels like fire and destruction and the gold in the middle is like the hurricane shaking everybody up, all the men and women on both sides." So, ever since she said that it made perfect sense and thus the name is Katrina, in honor of all the families that Hurricane affected. Colors are blue, gold, red, black.
